About
Reimer Hyperbaric of Canada
Reimer Hyperbaric of Canada was first opened to meet
the growing needs of the diabetic and traumatic brain injury community.
Susan Reimer first became interested in Hyperbaric Oxygen
Therapy (HBOT) after watching a health special on the Healing Chambers
used for CP and other traumatic brain injuries. Improvements in
patients could be seen after a month of HBOT. Such improvement hadn't
been seen in years with conventional therapies. They became so impressed
that they decided right then and there to dedicate their lives to
hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
The
next special on HBOT was filmed at a Moscow centre in Russia where
they treated MS, Lupus, stroke, wounds etc. The
physicians did surgeries in the hyperbaric chambers and also delivered
babies who were at high risk. Or it was because their mothers had
a heart condition. The narrator stated extra oxygen gave the baby
and mother an extra margin of safety.
Susan
Reimer had worked for a family physician for 26 years and saw patients
with diabetic wounds and amputation which may have been helped by
HBOT if the patients had been given that option. Since their local
hospital had only 2 single-person chambers, diabetic patients where
not always told about HBOT or given the option of HBOT treatment.
The high cost of in-hospital treatment and only 2 people being treated
at any one time made it impossible for the hospital to meet the
needs of burn patients, the diabetic community, radiation necrosis
from the Cancer Centre in Hamilton and the dental surgeon's need
to treat patients before certain procedures. Waiting lists are long
and the selection of patients is tight.
Susan
hopes to work with the hospitals to provide timely, accessible,
affordable HBOT. Their goal is to become a satellite for the hospitals
or an Independent Healthcare Facility.
Affordable
Prices
At Reimer Hyperbaric we offer remarkably affordable prices for Hyperbaric
Oxygen Treatments. Our prices are a fraction of what ALL hospitals
and ALL U.S.-based hbot facilities charge. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
in the U.S. ranges anywhere from $125.00 USD — $300.00 USD
per hour. Reimer Hyperbaric charges $100.00 CAD per hour. There are no other "hidden"
charges. Discounts are available at local hotels.
No Waiting
List — Fair Treatment for All
With our large dual chamber that can comfortably seat 12-14 people
at one time (including an attendant), long waiting lists can be
prevented. The dual-chamber construction allows two different protocols
to be utilized simultaneously. This means that patients which might
have been excluded from the selection process due to a lack of availability
in the one person chambers in a hospital could now be accepted for
their much-needed treatment.
Susan
continues to lobby the government and local hospitals to
support them in order to have this therapy covered under our present
healthcare system as a private facility. This is because our government
will only pay for wound care if it is provided in hospitals. Susan
is hoping that the Canadian Diabetic Association, local
hospitals and the public would help back their proposal: to provide
hyperbarics outside a hospital in order to lower the costs to our
healthcare system while providing a necessary, evidence based therapy
that is already recognised and accepted by our government. They
could then meet the needs of an under-serviced Southern Ontario.
Hyperbaric
Oxygen Therapy Shows Promising Results
HBOT has shown promising results in traumatic brain injury such
as stroke, cerebral palsy, near drowning. Other indications have
also shown promising results worldwide. Patients who might benefit
from the therapy should also be treated. Adequate oxygen has been
recognized as essential to good healing since we first gained an
appreciation of the way our bodies functioned. The lack of oxygen
(hypoxia) causes damage and prevents the repair of tissue. Hyperbaric
oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been demonstrated to address these issues
through studies and "anecdotal" testimonies from doctors,
parents, patients, physiotherapist, speech therapist, healthcare
workers and independent assessment centres.
Susan
tries to provide what she feels is an essential therapy
to those who need it. According to Susan, "Patients are not
desperate and uninformed when they come to us, but rather have researched
this therapy and its benefits. For many indications HBOT should
be the first line of adjunct therapy instead of being used as a
last resort when all else has failed."
Reimer
Hyperbaric is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients
through a natural therapy which helps to relieve a hypoxic (lack
of oxygen) condition. As more doctors study and understand the physiological
changes the body undergoes when under hyperbaric conditions, the
more this therapy will be used and accepted for "Healing In
The 21st Century".
